The story behind this distillery is one that involves Robert Burns, when he toiled the same soil that Lochlea Distillery is privileged to grow their malting barley in today.

The Tullibardine Distillery

Tullibardine’s history of brewing and distilling dates back to 1488, when King James IV of Scotland stopped by the site, a brewery at the time, to purchase beer. This was recorded as the first public purchase of beer in Scotland.

The earliest written reference to Scotch Whisky appears in the Exchequer Roll of 1494, commissioning Friar John Cor, a Lindores monk, to turn 8 bolls of malt into Aqua Vitae. After a break of 523 years, spirit is once again flowing from the copper stills at Lindores Abbey Distillery.

 Established in 1893 by a Scottish entrepreneur named Alexander Matheson.


 Located in a large meadowland (the Scottish word for big meadowland being “dalmore” — hence, where the distillery derives its name).


Located north of Inverness and adjacent to the Cromarty Firth, the location was ideal for whiskey production

Established in 1810 at a time when the island was home to more than a thousand people. 


However, in 1901 fortunes changed on Jura, compounded by two World Wars, the roof came off the distillery and it fell into disrepair, taking with it many jobs from the island.

Founded by Sir Alexander Ramsay in 1824, Fettercairn is a Highland distillery known for the innovative cooling rings on its pot stills and its distinctly fruity and savoury spirit.

  

Always experimenting, Alexander Ramsay also had the foresight of his Scottish Oak Project, utilizing the Fettercairn forests.

  In 1966, Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers Ltd. built the Tamnavulin distillery in response to the growing demand for malt whisky by blenders such as Whyte & Mackay, Crawfords, and Mackinlay's.
