The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers is committed to safeguarding and protecting any information that you provide us when you use this website.  This Privacy Statement describes the ways we collect information from and about you, and what we do with the information, so that you may decide whether or not to provide information to us.  The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers may change this policy from time to time by updating this page.  You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes.  This policy is effective from the 24th of March 2021.

INDEMNITY

The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers has events at which alcohol is served.  The event is intended for the enjoyment and exploration of the Whisky and Food experience.  Our in-person events combine Whisky selections with 3-4 courses of food over a period of 3-4 hours.  YOU are responsible for your conduct at these events.  The trained staff and/or the members of Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers committee can assist you in arranging a taxi, rideshare or other service to get you home safely. 

By purchasing your ticket(s) to the event, you hold harmless the Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers, and its volunteer committee members, against any and all claims arising out of the participation in, attendance of, or conveyance home from the event. 

By attending our events, purchasing tickets and/or visiting our website you are accepting and consenting to the practices herein described in this Privacy Policy and Legal Statements. 

What we collect 

We collect the following information:

• Name
• Contact information (Phone number and in some cases address, if provided), including email address
• Photographs

We DO NOT collect:

• Banking Information
• Credit Card Information. Payments for registration are processed through a secure third party (PayPal), not by this site.

What we do with the information we gather

We require this information to communicate with the associates of The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers, in particular for the following reasons:

• Internal record keeping.
• We may periodically send promotional emails about new events or other information which we think you may find interesting, using the email address which you have provided.
• From time to time, we may also use your contact information to connect with you for survey purposes. We may contact you by email, phone, or mail. We may use your response to the survey to customize the website according to your interests.
• We post photographs of our events, inclusive of the activities and guests in attendance.

Security

The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers will take reasonable precautions to protect personal information in its possession. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure we have put in place electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. The Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers will do its best to ensure the security of your information on our systems, but no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Therefore, the Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

If you DO NOT wish your picture to potentially be displayed on our website, please advise any one of the Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers committee members or email them at info@smwe.ca. If you have an existing picture on the website and would like it removed, please contact any organizer of Academy of Single Malt Whisky Explorers events and we will make every reasonable effort to remove it as quickly as possible.

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information or pictures, to third parties, unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so.
